Central Georgia EMC is asking customer-owners to conserve electricity during the hours of 5 a.m. to 8 a.m., on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, in an effort to reduce peak demand during that time. Forecasts indicate that Tuesday morning’s temperature combined with the higher demand for electricity could create peak conditions for Georgia’s electric grid.
When you use electricity, not just the amount you consume, impacts how much Central Georgia EMC must pay for wholesale power. Too much demand at a particular time of day can cause the price of energy to ratchet upward, which eventually is passed on to our membership through rates.
We all save if you help your electric cooperative by lowering your energy use during peak hours.
Tips to lower your energy use during peak demand times.
- Set your heating system thermostat down at least three degrees.
- Turn off lights in unoccupied rooms.
- Avoid using ovens, dishwashers, and delay doing laundry.
- Reduce hot water use during this three hour period.
