Two Scholarships. One Application. A Simple Path to Opportunity.

At Central Georgia Electric Membership Corporation (CGEMC), we’re committed to investing in the future of our communities by supporting the educational goals of high school seniors and undergraduate students. Each year, we offer scholarships to help local students take the next step in their college journey.

Through a single application, students can be considered for two scholarship opportunities: the Walter Harrison Scholarship and the CGEMC Powering the Future Scholarship.

Walter Harrison Scholarship – $1,000

The Walter Harrison Scholarship is a statewide scholarship competition sponsored by electric membership corporations (EMCs) across Georgia and coordinated by Georgia EMC (GEMC).

Eligibility
  • Your primary residence must be in the household of a Central Georgia EMC member (electric customer) or a CGEMC employee.
  • Previous Walter Harrison Scholarship winners are not eligible.
  • Applicants must be undergraduates (graduating high school seniors and students already enrolled in college or vocational-technical schools are eligible).
Selection Process
  • Finalists are chosen locally by Central Georgia EMC.
  • Finalist applications are then submitted to GEMC for the state competition.
  • Selection is based on financial need and academic achievement.
Scholarship Details
  • Amount: $1,000
  • Usable at: Any accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical institute in Georgia.

CGEMC Powering the Future Scholarship – $500

Each year, the CGEMC finalist for the Walter Harrison Scholarship is also awarded the Powering the Future Scholarship, valued at $500.

Application Deadline

All applications must be received by January 23, 2026, for Fall Semester of 2026.   
Applications will open in October 2026 for Fall Semester of 2027.
